Rifi orders strict application of tobacco control law

Police chief Ashraf Rifi ordered security forces to strictly apply the tobacco control law in the country and fine violators.

Starting Saturday tobacco companies will be banned from sponsoring any type of sports, musical, or cultural activities. The law passed by Parliament 6 months ago also bans the promotion of any type of tobacco on billboards and in the media.

Any violation will result in a fine ranging between L.L. 1.5 million and approximately L.L 44 million.

Moreover a well-known chain of malls inaugurated its no smoking police as part of an awareness campaign combating the dangerous of smoking.

The smoke free parliament, a post distributed all over the parliament to obey the law numbered "174" that was stated to stop smoking.

This campaign contributed to raising the awareness of society and decision makers on the dangers of smoking, recalling the parliament passed a law in august 2011 to ban smoking in public places , due to take effect in September this year .we fully hope Lebanese parliament and citizens will obey these rules in order to decrease smoking and its harmful negativities .

5 Men Face Charges In Expired Food Scandal

Five men were charged with crimes related to the distribution of spoiled food Monday as Prime Minister Najib Mikati called a ministerial meeting on food safety scheduled later the week. Were charged of selling spoiled goods can garner up to three years in prison with fines.

In a statement Monday, Mikati said that the meetings will "regulate this issue and come up with important results to ensure food safety and the safety of citizens". A draft law to establish a national agency for food safety independent of ministerial control was first proposed in 2002, but political disagreements between the health and agricultural ministries hampered progress.
